Armed robbers attack 10 vehicles, rob passengers at Dodowa-Somanya road

More than 10 vehicles were attacked with passengers aboard robbed of their valuables on Thursday, June 15.

The incident which lasted for about 45 minutes happened on the Dodowa-Somanya road at about 9:00 pm.

Eyewitnesses say the armed robbers staged a traffic block near Agomeda Luwuor Junction in the Ashai Osudoku District in the Greater Accra Region to engage in the operation.

A victim, narrating the incident to JoyNews said he and his motor rider spotted three vehicles parked in front of them upon reaching the Agomeda Luwuor junction.

He said before they could ask themselves why the vehicle had been parked, a guy in a mask appeared from nowhere, pointed a gun and shot at them.

He added that “my motor rider drove quickly unto him and he run into the bush.”

“We decided to quickly turn and escape but unfortunately, one of our guys fell off the motorbike.”

He further explained that they had no option but to leave the guy behind and escape.

 

“Unfortunately, when we escaped, there were two other vehicles, one saloon car and one passenger car. We tried to stop the two vehicles but they didn’t stop.

“And then they also drove in and they stopped them. But for the commercial vehicle, that is the sprinter, they gave a warning shot. The driver had to park and then most of the passengers had to run into the bush,” the victim said.

“A few of them were got hold of and then I think they took most of their belongings.”

He added that they called the Police but upon their arrival, the armed robbers had escaped.

 

A driver of one of the commercial vehicles involved in the incident also told JoyNews what transpired.

“I was on the Somanya toad when I saw the roadblock, I tried to reverse but they started giving warning shots. So I packed my car and fled into the bush. But one of them followed me and caught up with me. I struggled with him, but I was overpowered after he hit me with a weapon. They really hurt me,” the driver narrated.
