The Ashanti Regional Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned the five Presidential hopefuls to refrain from the use of vulgar words during campaigning.
The admonition which was contained in a notice also cautioned the various campaign teams, spokespersons, Directors of campaigns, and other apparatchiks.
The statement issued and signed by the secretary, Mr. Victor Owusu Jnr, expressed the pain and distress of the Council over the grave development vis-a-vis campaigning, in terms of pronouncements and utterances by some aspirants and their various campaign teams, in view of the importance of the impending internal elections.
The Ashanti Regional Council of Elders claims it is their “impinging responsibility” to step in, and demand sanity in the conduct of the people involved in the campaign of the Flagbearershop campaign.
As a result, the Council has outlined the “inappropriate statements” that should be a no-go area for campaigners
The Council has directed that campaigners should refrain from using insulting language directed at any of the aspiring flagbearers and that there should not be any campaign based on sectionalism.
It said there should be no defamatory attacks on each other as well as campaigs that would self-destruct the party and provide ammunition to opponents in the 2028 general election.
The Ashanti Regional Council of Elders, however, stressed that it would embrace and support campaign that respects each other and mindful of the unity of the party and portrays the values of the party traceable from the party’s forebears, and a campaign that is anchored on the ideas and vision of candidates for the party and country.
The statement has, therefore, warned that the Council of Elders will follow the campaign of every aspiring flagbear with an “eagle eye”.
