In a bid to address pressing concerns in the petroleum sector, Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, today played host to the CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Lawyer Edudzi Tamekloe, and his team at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).

The meeting, which was also attended by the Regional Electoral Commission (RECSEC), provided a platform for discussions on the NPA’s work and key issues affecting the petroleum sector in the Ashanti Region.

During the meeting, Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the need for a clampdown on non-compliance within the petroleum sector. He highlighted issues such as fuel adulteration, illegal fuel trade, and safety lapses at some fuel stations, which pose significant risks to consumers and undermine industry standards. The Regional Minister stressed the importance of strict enforcement to protect consumers and maintain industry standards.

Beyond regulation, Dr. Amoakohene also sought the NPA’s support through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to assist communities in the Ashanti Region. He identified education and healthcare as key areas where interventions would greatly benefit the people of Ashanti. This move is in line with the Regional Minister’s commitment to improving the socio-economic development of the region.

Furthermore, Dr. Amoakohene assured the NPA that the region is ready to facilitate access to affordable land outside the metro for any projects they wish to undertake. This initiative aligns with the broader strategy to open up the city and region for development, creating opportunities for growth and investment.
