In a significant move to address the lingering Ghana Card registration backlog in the Ashanti Region, the National Identification Authority (NIA) has allocated over 110,000 blank cards to the region.
This development is expected to clear the backlog of approximately 80,000 pending Ghana Card applications in the region, paving the way for more Ghanaians to acquire the card.
The allocation of the blank cards was made possible through the support of the NIA Head Office, led by Executive Secretary Yayra Koku.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has welcomed the development, saying it will go a long way in enhancing the registration process in the region.
However, Dr. Amoakohene also cautioned against the practice of non-Ghanaians acquiring the Ghana Card through unauthorized means, emphasizing the need for tighter scrutiny and community vigilance to prevent this.
The Ghana Card is a critical document that serves as proof of citizenship, and its issuance must be carefully managed to prevent unauthorized individuals from acquiring it.
With the allocation of the blank cards, the NIA is expected to intensify its registration efforts in the Ashanti Region, ensuring that all eligible Ghanaians are registered and issued with the Ghana Card.
