The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has successfully signed Performance Contracts with all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region, marking a significant milestone in the implementation of government’s decentralisation and public sector reform agenda.

The signing exercise, which was carried out in full compliance with national directives, was completed within the stipulated deadline of 30th January, set for all Regional Coordinating Councils across the country.

This timely completion once again places the Ashanti Region at the forefront of effective public administration and institutional leadership.

The regional signing follows the national Performance Contract signing session for all sixteen regions, which was hosted in Asokwa, Kumasi, further underscoring the strategic importance of the Ashanti Region in Ghana’s governance architecture.

Speaking on the significance of the exercise, Dr Frank Amoakohene,Ashanti Regional Minister noted that the Performance Contracts provide a clear and structured framework that aligns all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with specific targets, measurable outcomes, and defined service delivery standards.

The contracts are designed to strengthen accountability, enhance coordination among institutions, and promote a results-oriented culture within local government administration.
According to the RCC, the Performance Contract system is a practical tool for tracking institutional performance, improving efficiency in the use of public resources, and ensuring that development interventions translate into tangible benefits for communities at the grassroots level.

“The successful signing of these contracts demonstrates our collective commitment to disciplined public administration, improved service delivery, and transparent governance. It ensures that every MMDA in the Ashanti Region is working within a clear performance framework that prioritises results and accountability,” he stated.

The initiative also directly supports the President’s governance reform and national reset agenda, which places emphasis on strengthening public institutions, enforcing accountability mechanisms, and ensuring responsible utilisation of state resources.

Through this framework, MMDCEs are expected to translate policy objectives into concrete development outcomes that improve the quality of life of citizens.

The minister commended the Coordinating Directors, MMDCEs, and officers of the Local Government Service for their cooperation, professionalism, and dedication throughout the process. Their collective effort, the Council noted, was instrumental in ensuring the smooth and timely completion of the exercise.

The Council further expressed optimism that the signed Performance Contracts will serve as a catalyst for enhanced service delivery across sectors such as infrastructure, sanitation, education, health, local economic development, and social services.

As implementation begins, the RCC assured the public of its commitment to continuous monitoring, evaluation, and support to ensure that every district delivers measurable progress, strengthens local governance, and contributes meaningfully to national development.

“With shared responsibility and sustained commitment, we will continue to work diligently to ensure that the people of the Ashanti Region experience improved services, accountable leadership, and inclusive development,” the Council affirmed.

The successful signing of the Performance Contracts once again reinforces the Ashanti Region’s reputation as a leader in governance, coordination, and effective decentralised administration.
