The Ashanti Youth Caucus has strongly come to the defense of Dr. Kwabena Duffour, the former Finance Minister, against allegations made by the NDC Zongo community of Kumawu.
The community claimed that Dr. Duffour made derogatory comments against Northerners in connection with the appointment of a District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Kumawu District Assembly.
Refutation of Allegations.
Mr. Frank Basoah, the National President of the Ashanti Youth Caucus, categorically refuted the allegations at a press conference.
He expressed worry over the recent press conference and demonstration held at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party office in Kumawu, which went viral on social media. According to Mr. Basoah, the Ashanti Youth Caucus intercepted a video claiming that Dr. Duffour had vowed never to allow a Northerner to be appointed as DCE.
Dr. Duffour’s Involvement in the Selection Process.
Mr. Basoah stressed that Dr. Duffour has no involvement in the selection or nomination process of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). He emphasized that Dr. Duffour has contributed significantly to the development of Kumawu, including the recent acquisition of a plot of land for the construction of a befitting party office.
Dr. Duffour’s Respect for All Ethnic Groups.
Mr. Basoah highlighted Dr. Duffour’s respect and admiration for all ethnic groups in Ghana. He noted that many of Dr. Duffour’s closest allies in both political and social life are Northerners. Mr. Basoah categorically denied that Dr. Duffour ever made any tribal comment, publicly or privately.
Ultimatum to Those Making Allegations .
Mr. Basoah issued a seven-day ultimatum to anyone with evidence of the alleged tribal remarks to make it public. He also gave those behind the false allegations an ultimatum of three days to retract and render an unqualified apology to Dr. Duffour or face the full rigor of the law.
The Ashanti Youth Caucus stands by Dr. Kwabena Duffour and rejects the allegations made against him. Dr. Duffour’s commitment to the unity and growth of the NDC, as well as the peace and development of Ghana, cannot be underestimated by any group of people or individual for parochial interests.
