A group of youth in the Ashanti region dubbed The Ashanti Youth Caucus has made a passionate appealed to Nana Afia Serwaah Kobi Ampem, the Queen mother of Ashanti to convince the former President and the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama and the party to choose Dr Kwabena Dufour, the former governor of the Bank of Ghana and finance Minister elsewhere in the former President the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills government as his running mate in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Mr . Frank Basoah, the Chairman of the group at the Manhyia Palace explained that, comparing the potential names that are coming up for the position, Dr Dufour stands tall and exceptional among them.
He is of the view that, the Ashanti region play a vital role in the NDC winning every general elections in the country, says anytime the NDC is able to garner over 27% of the total votes in the region it wins the general elections, and for that matter the need to choose the running mate from the region to enhance the party’s chances of winning the 2024 general elections.
Mr Basoah made the appealed after the leadership of the youth group visited the queen mother at the Manhyia Palace to present her an assorted drinks and water to wish her a New year’s message.
He stressed that, the NDC is yet to choose a Presidential candidate or running mate from the Ashanti region that decides their electoral fortunes in every general elections hence, it’s long overdue for the party and the flagbearer to consider picking the running mate from the region in the upcoming crucial elections which the NDC must win.
He reiterated that, the youth in the Ashanti region are ever ready to pull every resources together and their strength to campaign vigorously for the NDC to wins the general elections when their own, in the person of Dr Dufour has been chosen to partner the flagbearer of the NDC, because he is been tried and tested in every portfolio been served in the public and private life.
