The Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, has vowed to resist any attempts by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate to rig the upcoming elections in the constituency.
The Awutu Senya West MP raised concerns about the alleged attempts by some members of the NPP to manipulate the parliamentary elections in favour of their candidate, Eugene Arhin.
She reaffirmed her intention to safeguard the will of the electorate.
Although Awutu Senya West has a history of electing MPs for only one term, Agbotui said that the people of the constituency have assured her of their continued support.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP emphasised that the people of Awutu Senya West were determined to break the tradition of one-term MPs and were committed to supporting her for a second term.
Speaking after former President John Dramani Mahama visited the region as part of his three-day tour, Agbotui expressed confidence that she would make history by becoming the first MP in the constituency to secure a second term.
“I know what my opponent intends to rig the elections, and I am putting it on record that if he tries, he won’t get it easy. One plus one must be equal to two and not five, so we want to make sure that the figures from the constituency tally during the elections.
“I have made the people aware that it is time to stop the one-term MP thing, and they have understood me, so I won’t sit and watch as the will of the people is manipulated because someone wants to become an MP.
“My people have assured me of voting for me to end the one-term thing because it regards development,” Agbotui said.
