The Bosome-Freho NPP constituency seems to be on a suicidal mission as electioneering campaign towards the December 2024 elections is threatened.
Six factions have emanated from the situation at the expense of the electoral fortunes of the party in the constituency.
The Ashanti Regional NPP Council of Elders led by the chairperson, Mrs. Rosemond Appiah-Menka and accompanied by Mrs. Georgina Kusi, Member of the Council of State was stunned by the current state of the NPP in the Bosome-Freho constituency when the members visited Asiwa, the district capital to assess the impact of the peace talks with the stakeholders.
During a meeting with the stakeholders, it was revealed that the constituency chairman Kawaka Frimpong, the Parliamentary candidate, Kwame Asafo Adjei Ayeh, the District Chief Executive, Kofi Adu Amoateng, the sitting MP, a former DCE Yaw Danso and the founding member and chairman of the Council of Elders, Mr. Yaw Amoah Gyamih each lead a faction thus deepening the cracks in the party.
Each of the factions has a share of constituency executives and sympathizers.
It was further disclosed that Yaw Danso, the former DCE and former parliamentary candidate and some executives are on one side while the DCE, PC and chairman are on the other side with former executives of the party completely sidelined in party activities.
Even though the constituency chairman is targeting 80% of votes, the campaign strategy of the party is dented as members of the constituency campaign team are working in isolation of each other and trading accusations and counter-accusations amid complaints of lack of adequate logistics including finances.
The Council of Elders realized that the current situation explains why the Bosome-Freho constituency is constantly changing its Member of Parliament every four years.
Conspicuously absent at last Wednesday’s meeting was the PC, Kwame Asafo Adjei Ayeh.
To arrest the situation and strategize for the impending elections, Mrs. Georgina Kusi, the Council of State member, has directed that all stakeholders in the constituency should reconvene at an emergency meeting in Kumasi to iron out their differences as soon as possible.
Addressing the meeting, Madam Beatrice Serwaa Derchie, admonished the executives to drop their ego, unite and work for the party which is bigger than every individual member of the party.
She warned that those who were not ready leave the party honourably and not destroy the party others had laboured to found and built.
The NPP Regional secretary, Kwame Adom Appiah who was in attendance, cautioned members on NPP Whatsapp platforms to avoid insults and ensure decency.
He noted that the continuous change of MPs which was attributed to the conduct of the various MPs would deprive their MPs of ministerial appointments at the expense of development in the constituency and
cautioned against the one-term tenure of MPs in the constituency.
Other members of the Ashanti NPP Council of Elders at the Asiwa assessment meeting were Dr. Moussa Jabir Kebir, Vice chairman, Chairman Kwabena Dwomo (former Bantama constituency chairman), Hon. Alex Kwaku Korankye, former Asante Akim MP and Board chairman of the Middle Belt Development Authority; Victor Owusu Jnr. (Secretary), Nana Adu Gyamfi, Madam Afia Mprengo, Hon. Kofi Frimpong (former MP, Kwabre East), Mrs. Elisabeth Agyemang (former MP Oforikrom) and Madam Georgina Boakye Yiadom.
Early this month, the Ashanti NPP Council of Elders withdrew a suit between Mr. Kwame Asafo Adjei Ayeh, the parliamentary candidate for Bosome-Freho, the NPP and Mr. Yaw Amoah Gyamih on an issue of eligibility on the part of the PC for out of court settlement. E N D
