Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Pays Courtesy Call on Minister for Energy and Green Transition

His Excellency Tong Defa, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, paid a courtesy visit to Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, in Accra. The meeting underscored strong bilateral ties between Ghana and China, particularly in energy and green transitions.

Ambassador Tong expressed China’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Ghana, emphasizing the importance of sustainable energy development and green transition initiatives. He highlighted China’s help to Ghana with the construction of Bui Dam, which generates 400MW of power. He stated that China is currently focusing on green development. “More than half of China is now using clean energy. We are committed to executing 30 green projects in Africa.”

The Minister for Energy and Green Transitions, Hon. John Abdulia Jinapor, welcomed the Ambassador and acknowledged China’s significant role in Ghana’s energy landscape. Hon. Jinapor thanked China for its continuous support and assistance to Ghana, especially in energy. He further commended China for its commitment to green transition, citing the surge in the production of Electric vehicles.

He indicated numerous opportunities in the energy sector, especially renewable energy. The Minister encouraged investors to explore these opportunities.
He noted ongoing collaborations and expressed optimism about future partnerships that would contribute to Ghana’s energy security and environmental sustainability.

The two leaders reaffirmed their dedication to fostering a robust and mutually beneficial relationship, with a focus on advancing green energy solutions and sustainable development in Ghana.
