Farmers in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District have received a major boost following the commencement of free fertilizer distribution across the district, an initiative spearheaded by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Mba Zachariah Alenbilla.

The intervention, rolled out under the auspices of the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly (ANNDA), is aimed at supporting farmers, improving crop yields, and strengthening the local economy through enhanced agricultural productivity.

Speaking at a brief but symbolic ceremony to mark the start of the distribution, Hon. Alenbilla reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to prioritizing agriculture as a key driver of development in the district. He emphasized that farming remains the backbone of many households in the area, and providing essential inputs such as fertilizer is crucial to sustaining livelihoods and ensuring food security.

“This initiative is a demonstration of our resolve to stand with our farmers,” the DCE noted. “Agriculture is the engine of our local economy. By supporting our farmers with free fertilizer, we are investing directly in food production, income generation, and poverty reduction.”

The fertilizer distribution exercise is expected to benefit hundreds of farmers cultivating staple crops such as maize, cassava, plantain, and vegetables across various communities in the district. According to officials, the intervention will help reduce the financial burden on farmers, especially at a time when input costs continue to rise.

Several beneficiary farmers expressed gratitude to the District Assembly and the DCE for the timely intervention. They described the support as both encouraging and impactful, noting that access to fertilizer has often been a major challenge during planting seasons.
One farmer who received his allocation said the free fertilizer would significantly improve his farm output this year. “With this support, I can expand my acreage and expect better yields. It will not only feed my family but also increase my income,” he said.
Agricultural officers present at the event underscored the importance of proper application of the fertilizer to maximize results. They assured farmers of continuous technical guidance and monitoring to ensure the initiative achieves its intended objectives.
The Assembly believes that increased agricultural productivity will stimulate local markets, create employment opportunities, and enhance overall economic activity within the district. Improved yields are also expected to contribute to stabilizing food prices and strengthening food supply chains.
Hon. Alenbilla further called on beneficiaries to use the fertilizer responsibly and avoid diverting it for unintended purposes. He stressed that transparency and fairness would guide the distribution process to ensure that genuine farmers benefit from the intervention.
The free fertilizer program forms part of broader efforts by the District Assembly to promote sustainable development and improve living standards in the district. As planting activities gather momentum, many residents are hopeful that the initiative will mark the beginning of a productive farming season and renewed economic growth in Atwima Nwabiagya North.
With agriculture at the forefront of the district’s development agenda, the Assembly’s latest intervention signals a strong commitment to empowering farmers and building a resilient local economy.
