Mr Bernard Acquah, Chief Information Officer at MTN Ghana has advised users of the internet to consciously guard their identities so that they do not get exploited by cyber fraudsters.
Taking his turn on the MTN Bright Conversations on Monday afternoon, Mr Acquah noted that a person’s identity is the person’s life.
According to him, any personal or sensitive information that goes out from any person to someone who is not supposed to see would mean that one has become a sell out or prone to exploitation from cyber fraudsters.
“I would urge the public to guard their identities with their life so that no one gets access to their personal or sensitive information”, Mr Acquah advised.
Precautions:
The MTN Information Officer said there were series of actions that could save people from being bullied or exploited on the internet.
He noted that users of cell phones or computers could also secure their devices with strong passwords.
Mr Acquah posited that more robust anti-virus were available to be installed on phones and computers to prevent unscrupulous people from spreading viruses as well as other hacking items unto devices.
“At this point i would urge the public to continue to secure their electronic devices with potent passwords rather than loose ones. I also call on the public to practice the two way security of passwords so that no one gets access to information preserved for their use only”, the MTN official appealed.
The MTN Official educated the public against rushing to click on unsolicited messages on the phones or computers.
He also cautioned them from hurriedly responding to prompts that request for their personal passwords or the approval of mails of supposed raffles or promotions they’ve not participated in.
Mr Acquah furthermore called on private and individual companies to periodically conduct seminars and workshops for their employees on cyber security and by so doing inculcate the need to safeguard devices they use in their operations.
“I will call on all companies to periodically take their employees through cyber security awareness training so that they can become aware of dangers and tricks unscrupulous people use to hack and spread viruses on websites and internet surfaces”, the MTN Information Officer reminded.
