In a heartfelt demonstration of compassion and unwavering commitment to social responsibility, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, 2024 running mate to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP has once again marked the Easter season with acts of generosity, continuing a remarkable 20-year tradition of supporting vulnerable groups in society.

This year, the former Minister and prominent public figure visited the Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre, the Kumasi Cheshire Home, and the Kumasi Children’s Home, where he donated a wide range of essential food items to inmates and residents.

The items presented included bags of rice, boxes of sardines, gallons of cooking oil, maize, sugar, and gari—provisions aimed at ensuring that the beneficiary institutions are adequately resourced to meet the daily needs of their residents. The gesture brought relief and joy to both management and beneficiaries of the facilities, many of whom depend heavily on such interventions for their upkeep.
Dr. Prempeh’s Easter outreach forms part of a broader charitable initiative he has faithfully upheld for two decades. Each year, he makes three separate visits to these institutions during key periods on the Christian calendar, reinforcing a deeply personal mission rooted in faith, empathy, and community service.
Speaking in an interview with Lawson Media, Dr. Prempeh underscored the spiritual and moral motivation behind his consistent acts of kindness.
“It is our duty as Ghanaians and as Christians to see to the welfare of those in need. Helping the needy brings blessings not just to the recipients, but also to those who give. This has been my tradition for the past 20 years, and I will continue to prioritise such acts of benevolence,” he stated.
Officials at the various institutions commended Dr. Prempeh for his unwavering dedication and long-standing support, noting that his contributions have significantly improved the quality of life for residents over the years. They highlighted that beyond the material donations, his regular visits offer encouragement, hope, and a sense of belonging to individuals who are often marginalized.
At the Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre, staff expressed gratitude for the sustained partnership, emphasizing that such interventions play a critical role in supplementing limited resources. Similarly, caregivers at the Kumasi Cheshire Home lauded his consistency, describing him as a pillar of support for persons living with disabilities.
The Kumasi Children’s Home also acknowledged the impact of his donations, noting that the food supplies will go a long way in catering to the nutritional needs of the children under their care.
Residents across the facilities welcomed the gesture with smiles and appreciation, with many describing the visit as a highlight of their Easter celebrations.

Dr. Prempeh’s enduring philanthropic efforts stand as a powerful reminder of the importance of giving back to society, particularly during moments of reflection such as Easter. His example continues to inspire individuals and organizations alike to extend a helping hand to the less privileged.

As Ghana celebrates the spirit of Easter, his actions echo the values of love, sacrifice, and generosity that define the season—offering hope and dignity to those who need it most.
