The Africa Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) is urging delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who will be electing parliamentary candidates within constituencies with sitting Members of Parliament, to choose persons who are fit for the job.
According to the executive secretary of ACEPA, Dr. Rasheed Draman, Parliament needs experienced legislators.
The NPP will hold its primaries in constituencies with sitting MPs on January 27.
In a Citi News interview, Dr. Draman urged that delegates should choose wisely on the day.
“In order to avoid the impact of the void that is going to be created by the wealth of experience that we will be missing in the 9th Parliament, they [the delegates] should look for candidates who have the experience and are well-positioned to perform the functions of a legislator, not necessarily those who have money, not necessarily those who are popular, but those who will truly represent the interests of the party and the interests of the constituents.”
