The NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency , Mr. George Akom has stepped in to provide solution to unpaid salaries of about 59 teachers in the district due to some payroll error. The Parliamentary Candidate who is an educationist and advocate for development through education met the affected teachers and interacted with them to have forehand information to address the problem. It has been about 3 months which the affected teachers have not been paid due to change of management units for a decentralized payroll system. According to the teachers, since that process commenced, it has affected the salaries of many teachers in the district causing very high hardship on them. Most of the teachers who are couples and affected have been hit hard and causing severe hardship on them.This situation has caused negative impact on the performance of teachers in the classrooms. After hearing the issue for the first time, the Parliamentary quickly organized a meeting with the affected teachers and encouraged them to stand firm and do their possible best whiles measures are taken to resolve the problem. He pleaded that the problem should not cause any situation that may affect the innocent Pupils in their schools. He stressed that it was rather unfortunate for a worker to go through such a situation, especially those who have children and dependents. He gave himself as an example when he went through such a situation as teacher, and how difficult it was during his teaching days. He re- iterated that anything that affects teachers motivation both intrinsic and extrinsic were dangerous to the future of human capital development agenda.
He assured the affected teachers that he would do his possible best to bring it to the attention of Management for the problem to be solved in nearest possible time. Mr. George Akom has played a key role in the development of his Constituency through education by attending to many educational issues and providing appropriate interventions for positive change.
The teachers commended the Parliamentary Candidate for always seeking the the welfare of teachers in the district. The teachers were very enthused about the steps taken by Mr. Akom and had confidence in him that he would be able to resolve the problem.
In his closing remarks, he pledged his full support to the teachers and indicated that he would liaised with appropriate stakeholders to make sure that their stay in the district would not be jeopardized.
Mr. George Akom is an educationist who has contributed to education in diverse ways through advocacy, skill training and knowledge sharing.
He is now the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for the good people of Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency which many have tipped him to become a good member of Parliament for the Constituency.
