The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that the Government of Ghana has fully settled all outstanding arrears of the Capitation Grant for basic schools from 2023 to date. This announcement was made through a press release issued by the Public Relations Unit of the GES on July 23, 2025.
The Capitation Grant plays a vital role in supporting the administration of public basic schools by providing financial assistance for essential needs such as teaching and learning materials, minor repairs, and other school-based management activities.
The payment of these arrears reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the smooth operation and effective management of basic education across the country.
The GES expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance in prioritizing this payment despite prevailing economic challenges. The service also urged all school leaders to use the funds responsibly and in accordance with guidelines for utilization of the Capitation Grant.
Monitoring teams at district and regional levels will intensify supervision to ensure compliance and value for money. The GES remains committed to working with stakeholders to improve learning outcomes, enhance school management systems, and ensure the delivery of inclusive, equitable, and quality education for every Ghanaian child.
