The Deputy Minister of Education in charge of technical and vocational education and training (TVET),Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, have stressed on the huge sums of money and resources committed to the Free Senior High School education by the Akuffo Addo- Bawumia administration.
In his address over the weekend on behalf of Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, at the 70th anniversary of Asanteman Senior High, Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, disclosed that about GHS10 billion has been spent so far on the FSHS education and that must tell Ghanaians that the NPP government considers education as the key factor to our country’s development. He made mentioned of the introduction of Free TVET, STEM schools and the free education for all which has increased accessibility from 813000 in 2016 to about 1.48million as it stands.
“I wouldn’t stand here to say free SHS has no challenges, it has it challenges but it also have it positive, but let us strengthen the positives and minimise the negatives because that is how systems improve in every society” he stated.
Prof Nyarko, called on all parents and guardians to consider first the educational needs of their wards even in dire situations.
“I will urge parent to spent their last dime on their children’s education because the reward far outweigh the sacrifice,” he stated.
He applauded the leadership, old and current students of the Asanteman Senior High School for contributing to the good human resource capital of Ghana as a nation.Good As he highlighted on the theme for their anniversary; “70 Years of enhancing quality education in Ghana: the role of Asanteman”
However, he was displeased by others who see the government’s investment in the FSHS as unremarkable.
