After 100 years of being in existence, students of Mampong Technical College of  Education in the Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region go to school carrying their own plastic chairs.

New entrants who were admitted in the 2022/2023 academic year, who reported to the school on admission day, January 30, 2023, presented a plastic chair or pays GH100.00 to the school authority.

According to some level 100 students and parents, the initiative of a tertiary student reporting to school with a specific blue coloured plastic chair worth GH100.00 is by school authorities themselves  and not from the government.

The Mampong Technical College of Education was established in 1922 by the British Colonial Government to serve as a Trade Training Centre during the governorship of Sir Gorden Guggisberg. It is the only Technical College of education in Ghana, offering a four year Bachelor in Education Programme.

The College has over the years been a pioneer in training and piloting programmes for the training of teachers to handle pre-technical skills at the basic level of education.

Since its establishment, the College has remained committed to technical education even though it has undergone at least eight re-designations.

It is currently the Centre of Excellence in technical and vocational competency skills. The institution celebrated its Centenary last year.
