In a heartwarming display of compassion and dedication to her constituents, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central in the Western Region, has surprised an unpaid teacher, Madam Elizabeth Konadu, with a Ghc10,000 rent allowance covering five years.

The gesture came after Madam Elizabeth Konadu, who teaches at Nyamedome D/A Basic School, expressed her struggles to Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, highlighting the challenges faced by educators in the constituency due to delayed government payments.

Madam Elizabeth Konadu had been finding it difficult to pay her rent due to months of unpaid salary, a situation common among some teachers in Ghana’s rural areas.

Upon learning of her plight, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe promptly responded with the Ghc10,000 rent allowance, covering five years, bringing immense relief to the teacher.

The MP’s swift action underscores her commitment to supporting individuals within her constituency, particularly those facing hardships.

Overwhelmed by the surprise gesture, Madam Konadu heaped praises on Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe for her generosity and dedication to helping people in Amenfi Central. “I was worried about my situation, but I am relieved now,” Madam Konadu expressed, grateful for the MP’s intervention. Additionally, she has spent Ghc40,000 weekly on wages at her block factory, employing young people and emphasizing youth employment’s role in national development.

Ghana’s government recently approved the absorption of 6,200 unpaid teachers, announcing Cabinet’s decision to address petitions from affected educators. This move aims to alleviate financial burdens on teachers awaiting formal postings and salary verifications.
