Member of Parliament for the Dome Kwabenya constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has announced her intention to represent the New Patriotic Party to contest again for the seat in the upcoming elections.

Adwoa Safo whose seat was the Majority petitioned the Speaker to declare vacant by the Speaker of Parliament for her long absence from the House after her position as deputy Majority Leader was taken away from her has been saying she still has a lot to offer her people and wouldn’t want to disappoint them.

After a constituency tour with the media and some supporters Friday, August 11, 2023, the three time Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya said her goodwill with her constituents is intact.

“As we toured you saw the happiness, the enthusiasm and good reception that I still have with my people. It tells me that I still have some goodwill in the constituency so will build on that and definitely when the time comes, I shall not desert my people, I shall represent them again by God’s grace,” she told TV3’s Evelyn Tengmaa.

Meanwhile, she says her constituency Chairman who had vowed to get her ousted for abandoning them is aware of her intentions and she is confident of his support due to her popularity which makes her easily marketable.

“My constituency Chairman, I don’t think that he is somebody who will ever doubt my candidature or my popularity in the constituency. Politics is a game of numbers so I have met my constituency Chairman, I have told him what I am telling you now and I know at the right time, he would also have to come in if he has to because if it’s the will of God and the people want me, I will not desert them,” she assured.

The Constituency Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Dome Kwabenya, Robert Osei Bonsu, revealed in October 2022 that, he had not heard from their Member of Parliament in two years.

The Chairman said the contacts Madam Adwoa Safo gave them was no more functioning and all attempts to reach her for the last two years were not successful.

The Chairman said the MP’s contacts were not going through when they called and she never called them for the past two years.

He was speaking with Alfred Ocansey on Ghana Tonight Wednesday, October 26, 2022 on TV3.

Mr. Osei Bonsu who sounded worried over the development said it’s a situation they deemed unfortunate but had no choice as it stood.

“For two years now I haven’t seen her and I haven’t heard from her. There is no way that I can contact her. The numbers that she gave to us are no more working. You call and it doesn’t go through. She doesn’t call us. So, that’s it. It’s an unfortunate situation but that’s where we find ourselves now,” he disclosed.

Meanwhile, Mr. Osei Bonsu said the constituency was divided into two with a section saying the lawmaker must be ousted whilst others thought she should be allowed to carry on.

Adwoa Safo was part of three MPs who absented themselves from Parliament for over 15 times and were summoned before the Privileges Committee of the House.

The other two, Kennedy Agyapong, Assin Central MP and Henry Quartey, Ayawaso Central MP met the Committee and were exonerated after providing explanation for their absence. But Adwoa Safo did not go.

Before Parliament went on recess in the last quarter of 2022, the Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, promised to give his ruling on a motion filed by the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, to declare her seat vacant.

The Speaker threw the motion for the plenary to debate after the Majority’s rejection of his ruling saying the decision was untenable.
