Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has been unanimously approved by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running partner in the general elections of 2024.
“I am happy to report that after the necessary consideration, the National Council of the party unanimously endorsed the presidential candidate’s nomination of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and Energy Minister, as his vice-presidential candidate pursuant to Article 13(3) of the Party Constitution,” NPP general secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said at a news conference in Accra on Thursday, July 4.
This momentous occasion completes the NPP’s presidential ticket for the general elections of 2024, paving the way for the party to fully and thoroughly engage Ghanaian voters with our message of transformation.
According to the NPP general secretary, Dr. Opoku Prempeh concurs with Dr. Bawumia’s vision of audacious solutions for our nation that are sensitive to the opportunities, demands, and difficulties of the twenty-first century.
Kodua Frimpong continued, “In this regard, he complements our flagbearer in many important ways and the two enjoy a warm, personal relationship anchored on deep mutual respect.”
Outside the conference room, a large group of party supporters wearing party T-shirts are dancing and drumming to music honoring the selection of the running mate.
It is anticipated that the appointment of the Manyhia South MP will increase the governing party’s support in the Ashanti Region, which is thought to be an NPP stronghold.
