The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has held a special meeting of the Ninth Assembly to deliberate on key development plans, revenue mobilisation strategies and other policy decisions aimed at accelerating development in the Kumasi Metropolis.
The meeting, held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, brought together Assembly Members, management, heads of departments and other stakeholders to consider important proposals and initiatives expected to shape the development agenda of the metropolis.
The meeting was chaired by the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong.
Among the major issues discussed were the Draft 2027 Annual Action Plan, the Fee-Fixing Resolution, the Composite Budget and the Revenue Improvement Plan.
Members also considered architectural drawings for a proposed Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project at the Krofrom Market, an initiative that forms part of efforts to improve market infrastructure and enhance economic activities within the metropolis.
The consideration of the Draft 2027 Annual Action Plan and Composite Budget is expected to provide direction for the Assembly’s development priorities, resource allocation and implementation of planned programmes in the coming year.
The Fee-Fixing Resolution and Revenue Improvement Plan also featured prominently on the agenda, reflecting the Assembly’s determination to strengthen its internally generated revenue (IGR) and improve its capacity to finance development projects and provide essential services.
Effective revenue mobilisation remains crucial to the Assembly’s ability to meet its financial obligations, maintain public infrastructure and respond to the growing needs of residents and businesses across the metropolis.
The proposed PPP development at Krofrom Market was another significant issue considered at the meeting.
The examination of the architectural drawings is expected to provide members with an opportunity to assess the proposed project and its potential contribution to improving market infrastructure and creating a more conducive environment for traders and other commercial operators.
The meeting forms part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to deepen participatory local governance by providing Assembly Members and relevant stakeholders with the opportunity to deliberate on critical policy matters affecting the development of Kumasi.
It also underscores the importance of planning, accountability and effective resource management in ensuring that development programmes are aligned with the needs and aspirations of residents.
The KMA, under the leadership of the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, has consistently emphasised the need for strategic planning, improved revenue mobilisation and stakeholder collaboration in advancing the development agenda of the metropolis.
The Assembly is expected to rely on the outcomes of such deliberations to strengthen its development framework and improve service delivery.

Kumasi, as one of Ghana’s major commercial and economic centres, continues to face increasing demands for improved infrastructure, sanitation, market facilities, roads and other essential municipal services.

The decisions and proposals considered at the special meeting are therefore significant to the Assembly’s efforts to address these challenges and promote sustainable urban development.

The meeting further reaffirmed KMA’s commitment to transparent local governance, prudent financial management and the implementation of development initiatives that will improve the living conditions of residents.
The Assembly has reiterated its resolve to work closely with stakeholders to build a more prosperous, organised and economically vibrant Kumasi.
