The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Krachi East, Hon. Sarfo Nketia, has made a significant appeal to the government and the Minister of Health to consider the immediate construction of a modern hospital in Dambai, the regional capital of the Oti Region.
In a recent interview with the media,Hon Nketia underscored the critical need for enhanced medical facilities to serve the growing population and address the existing healthcare challenges within the municipality.
The MCE highlighted the difficulties faced by residents during medical emergencies, emphasizing the limitations of the current polyclinic. He explained that the lack of adequate facilities often necessitates the transfer of patients to hospitals in Nkwanta South or Worawora, a journey that can take up to four hours due to the region’s geographical constraints and road conditions. This delay, Hon. Nketia stressed, can have dire consequences for patients in critical condition.
Hon. Nketia urged the Minister of Health and the government to prioritize this essential project to improve the quality of life for the people of Krachi East. Elevating the existing clinic to a full-fledged hospital would significantly enhance the municipality’s capacity to provide timely and effective medical care.
Beyond healthcare infrastructure, Hon. Nketia also addressed the pressing issue of waste management in Dambai and its surrounding communities. He expressed concern over the improper disposal of waste, which contributes to environmental hazards and increases the risk of flooding, especially during the rainy season.
To address this issue, the MCE announced that he has already initiated collaborative efforts with ZOOMLION and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to educate market women and traders on proper waste disposal practices. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of environmental cleanliness and to implement sustainable waste management strategies to mitigate the risk of flooding and promote a healthier living environment for all residents.
The MCE’s dual focus on healthcare and environmental sustainability reflects a comprehensive approach to improving the overall well-being of the Krachi East Municipality. By addressing these critical issues, Hon. Nketia is working to create a better future for the people of Krachi East.
