There is wild jubilation across the length and breath of Kumasi,the Ashanti Regional capital ,following the naming of Mathew Opoku Prempeh as NPP Running Mate.
The entire Kumasi and it’s adjoining areas , while not political, strongly welcome the choice of their beloved political Messiah, the royal Napo to partner Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as Running mate for the 2024 election.
People who were partying on the streets and drinking spots in Kumasi were full of enjoyment ,others were overwhelmingly positive and welcomed the selection of the Energy Minister and Manhyia Royal as the Running Mate.
People from various areas such as Patasi,Odeneho Kwadado,Manhyia ,Bantama,Danyame, Santasi,Suame, Atonsu, Asokwa, Ahodwo, Asafo and mong others, say they look forward to receiving their one and only Napo when his name is being mentioned to them officially.
They all considered the victory of Bawumia and the only grandson of the overlord of Asante(Napo) as an Asanteman priority in the next 6 months.
Reports suggest the mood among the people of Manhyia South Constituency was no different.
The Punch newspaper has it that Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, ahead of his naming, had personally visited nearly all the chiefs and queenmothers at home to seek their blessing and support for the “heavy duty that will be placed on him”.
Napo’s father, while apolitical, is said to have prepared the ground well for his son’s emergence including speaking to Chief under Asanteman in Other regions about Napo.
A confidential internal memo surrounding the choice of NAPO had intimated that the 2024 election will be the first election in Ghana where Chiefs and traditional influencers in the Ashanti Region will take a keen interest because of Napo.
Independent Analysts have said with the selection of Napo, it is possible for NPP to win the 2024 election easily by performing a little above average in the whole Ghana but securing a 77% to 85% showing in Ashanti region.
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh is expected to be formally announced by the party to Ghanaians and his party members in the coming days.
