Nana Kwaku Siaw, a renowned farmer and CEO of Kumah Farms and Training Centre, is sounding the alarm on the devastating impact of mining activities on Ghana’s environment and economy.

He’s urging the government to put all mining activities on hold for at least a year to prevent a catastrophe worse than the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Nana Siaw, illegal mining, particularly galamsey, is wreaking havoc on Ghana’s water, land, and cocoa farms.

He blames foreigners for exacerbating the problem and criticizes the current supervision system, which he claims is corrupt and ineffective.

To address this issue, Nana Siaw proposes a radical solution: deploying helicopters with military personnel to monitor and enforce mining regulations. This, he believes, will prevent bribery and ensure accurate record-keeping.

Nana Siaw’s concerns are not unfounded. As a former National Best Farmer and Nkosuohene of Anwonmaso Traditional Area, he has witnessed firsthand the destruction caused by unregulated mining .

His appeal to the government is a call to action to protect Ghana’s natural resources and ensure a sustainable future.
