The Member of Parliament for Abetifi constituency in the Eastern Region , Bryan Acheampong, has made a generous pledge to fully fund the reconstruction of the Adum BlueLight section of Kumasi’s Central Business District, which was recently ravaged by a devastating fire.
The former Minister for Food and Agriculture made the announcement during a visit to the market, where he also demonstrated his commitment to supporting the affected traders by donating GHS 300,000.
The fire, which occurred on Friday, March 21, caused extensive property damage, leaving many traders struggling to resume operations.
In the absence of official clearance for reconstruction, some traders have taken matters into their own hands by erecting temporary structures to continue their businesses. However, these makeshift structures are not stable and pose a significant risk to the traders and their customers.
Hon. Acheampong expressed concern about the temporary structures, noting that they are weak and not suitable for the traders.
He pledged to engage with the Asantehene, Otumfuo, who is currently out of the country, to obtain the necessary permits and approvals to reconstruct the market. The MP aims to rebuild the market with strong infrastructure, clean up the front, and construct stores to provide a normalcy to the traders’ lives.
According to Hon. Acheampong, the reconstruction project is expected to be completed within 12 months, pending approval from the Asantehene and city authorities. The MP’s pledge to fully fund the project is a welcome relief to the affected traders, who have been struggling to cope with the aftermath of the fire.
The donation of GHS 300,000 to the affected traders is a testament to Hon. Acheampong’s commitment to supporting the people of Kumasi.
The MP’s visit to the market and his pledge to rebuild the Adum BlueLight section demonstrate his dedication to improving the lives of his constituents and promoting economic development in the region.
The reconstruction of the Adum BlueLight market is a much-needed project that will provide relief to the affected traders and boost economic activity in the region.
With Hon. Acheampong’s pledge to fully fund the project, there is hope that the market will be rebuilt to better standards, providing a safe and conducive environment for traders to operate.
The people of Kumasi and the traders at the Adum BlueLight market are grateful for the MP’s generosity and commitment to their welfare.
