Mpasatia Robbery: Family go berserk as Cop gets bail

The family members of the deceased in the recent Mpasatia armed robbery case occurred at Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti Region have expressed disappointment and discontent over the bail granted to Sgt. Karim, a police officer and one of the suspects.

Victim of the alleged robbery incident, Emmanuel Kwabena Boakye, on May 26, 2025, was shot died at the Radiance Filling Station in Mpasatia, in the Ashanti Region.

The presiding Judge Jephatha Appau, on 29 July, 2025 hearing one of the suspect lawyers, granted Sgt Karim as co-suspect a bail condition of GHC 200,000, with two sureties required, one of whom must have a land title while the main suspect William Ofori Atta, still in custody.

According to the Court, the bail conditions reflect the seriousness of the offense and the need for the court to balance the rights of the accused with public safety concerns.

The family had expected a more severe outcome given the gravity of the crime and the loss of their loved one.

However, the father of the deceased and other family members are unhappy about the Court’s decision

“We are unhappy with the court’s decision. We believe justice has not been served, and we fear for the safety of our community.”, the deceased father told reporters outside Courtroom.

Adding: “The family plans to closely follow the proceedings to ensure justice is served to our son”.
