MTN Ghana in a festive gesture that underscored its long‑standing commitment to community welfare, presented baby hampers to 70 newborns at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) on Christmas Day.

The hand‑outs are part of a nationwide initiative in which the telecommunications company distributed a total of 700 hampers to mothers who gave birth on December, 25, marking the 14th consecutive year of the programme.

The hampers, each containing diapers, detergents, toys and other essential personal‑care items, were handed to grateful mothers amid a brief ceremony at KATH’s maternity ward.

The remaining 630 hampers were allocated to other health facilities across the country, including the Kumasi Children’s Hospital at Pampaso and several hospitals in Northern Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of MTN Ghana, Area Sales Manager for the Ashanti and Bono regions, Mr. Obed Adu‑Amankwaah, emphasized the spirit of giving that defines the season. “Christmas is not only about merrymaking; it is also a time to give and put smiles on the faces of others. Jesus Christ, whose birth we celebrate, gave His life for the world, and MTN Ghana is simply replicating that spirit of giving,” he said.

Mr. Adu‑Amankwaah added that the programme, now in its 14th year, reflects the company’s belief that its success is deeply rooted in the society it serves. “We are giving back and surprising mothers during a special moment in their lives,” he noted.

Mrs. Dorcas Asamoah Nyamekye, Nurse Manager for Operations and Gynaecology at KATH, thanked MTN Ghana for the timely donation. “We recorded 13 deliveries on Christmas Day, and the hampers have brought immense relief to the new mothers,” she said. “We hope this support can extend beyond Christmas—perhaps every three months—to help mothers who struggle with medical bills and prolonged hospital stays.”

Beneficiary mothers expressed heartfelt gratitude. One mother, who wished to remain anonymous, described the delivery as “extra special and meaningful, coinciding with the birth of Jesus Christ.”

MTN Ghana’s Christmas outreach, now an annual tradition, highlights the role of corporate social responsibility in alleviating the challenges faced by new parents, especially during the festive season. The company plans to continue similar initiatives throughout the year, reinforcing its commitment to the well‑being of Ghanaian families.
