The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Oforikrom Constituency of the Ashanti Region has demonstrated a strong sense of compassion and community responsibility by donating GH¢17,000 towards a critical throat surgery for a one-year-old boy in the constituency.

The beneficiary, Manasseh Adusei, was diagnosed at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital after his parents sought medical attention for persistent feeding difficulties.

Medical examinations revealed that the child is suffering from a serious blockage in his throat, a condition that has made it impossible for him to swallow solid food.

According to doctors, the infant can only manage water and light porridge, a situation that poses significant risks to his nutrition, growth, and overall survival.

Following the diagnosis, specialists at the KNUST Hospital referred Manasseh for an urgent surgical procedure to correct the condition.

Medical professionals have estimated the cost of the life-saving surgery at GH¢20,000, an amount far beyond the financial capacity of the child’s family.

Moved by the plight of the young boy and his family, executives of the NDC in the Oforikrom Constituency mobilised resources and made a collective contribution of GH¢17,000, leaving a remaining balance of GH¢3,000 to fully meet the medical requirement.

The donation was disclosed in a statement issued to The Punch Newspaper by Jerry James Sukah, popularly known within political circles as Papa Jay, who serves as the Oforikrom Constituency Communications Officer.

Mr. Sukah, who is also aspiring to the position of Deputy Regional Communications Officer for the Ashanti Region, said the gesture reflects the party’s commitment to humanity, empathy, and community service beyond partisan politics.

According to the statement, the constituency executives were deeply touched by the condition of the child and felt compelled to act swiftly to give him a chance at life.

Mr. Sukah emphasised that the intervention underscores the NDC’s belief that political leadership must be rooted in compassion and practical support for vulnerable members of society.

“This is not about politics; it is about saving a life,” the statement noted. “As leaders within the community, we believe it is our duty to respond when one of our own is in need, especially a child whose future depends on timely medical intervention.”

The family of Manasseh Adusei has expressed profound gratitude to the NDC Oforikrom Constituency executives for the generous support, describing it as a major relief during a period of extreme emotional and financial distress.

Meanwhile, the constituency executives have made a passionate appeal to benevolent individuals, organisations, and corporate bodies to help raise the outstanding GH¢3,000 to enable doctors proceed with the surgery without further delay.

The gesture by the NDC Oforikrom Constituency has been widely commended by residents and observers, who view it as a shining example of leadership with a human face and a reminder of the power of collective action in addressing critical social and health challenges within communities.
