A disturbing report has emerged of a large-scale invasion of the Jimira Forest Reserve by Chinese miners, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
According to sources, over 50 excavators were deployed to the reserve yesterday, located in the Ashanti Region, under the Nkawie Forestry District Services Division.
The miners’ activities have resulted in the destruction of all plantations made so far, causing irreparable damage to the ecosystem. The forestry staff, tasked with protecting the reserve, are being threatened by the miners, further exacerbating the situation.
The Jimira Forest Reserve is a vital component of Ghana’s natural heritage, providing habitat for numerous species and supporting the livelihoods of local communities. The destruction caused by the Chinese miners poses a significant threat to biodiversity, water sources, and the well-being of indigenous people.
The Ghana government and relevant authorities must take immediate action to halt the destruction and protect the Jimira Forest Reserve.
The destruction of the Jimira Forest Reserve by Chinese miners is a stark reminder of the threats facing Ghana’s natural resources. Urgent action is required to protect the reserve, uphold the law, and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
