Residents of Fumso,a community in the Adansi Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti Region, have expressed worry and their utmost displeasure over lack of toilet facilities in the area.
According to them, they will not vote in the upcoming general elections if authorities fail to give them toilet.
The situation, according to them, has compounded the already disgusting insanitary conditions in the area, which has resulted in perennial outbreak of avoidable diseases, leading to loss of lives.
They blamed the situation on years of neglect by the Member of Parliament for the area,Hon KT Hammond.
This, they stated, has forced many to attend to nature’s call in the bush whilst others ease themselves into black polythene and dispose them of indiscriminately.
This appeal was made when the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC embarked on a campaign tour in the constituency today ahead of the 2024 general election.
Akosua Nkrumah (Wole seller at fumso market),in an interview with The Punch newspaper, disclosed that “our biggest problem here is lack of toilet facilities. We have no toilet in this town, therefore, people defecate anyhow.”
She stressed the need for government to improve water and electricity supply with motorable roads to attract investors to the area to create jobs for its teeming unemployed youth.
Responding to the appeals of the residents, Chairman Nana Akwasi assured them of John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to remedy the situation with infrastructural facilities in the area to uplift the living conditions of the people should he become the President of the Country in 2025.
He, however, called for support from the residents to help the NDC win election 2024 in achieving its developmental agenda.
