The Second Vice Chairman for SUAME Constituency of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Richard Akwasi Asante, has commended Kumasi Metropolitan Education Directorate for providing answer booklets to basic schools for the ongoing termly examinations.
The booklets, he said, aims at solving some problems, associated with the examination.
Responding to accusations against the government about the examination, Mr Asante, said government allocated an amount of GH327,715 for the conduct of the examination.
The amount he disclosed, was taken from the capital grant allocated to the various basic schools to relieve parents of the burden of paying examination fees.
Mr Asante, said most schools in the Kumasi Metropolis were not supplied with answer booklets last Friday when the examination commenced.
According to him, some teachers forced their pupils to buy official sheets outside the schools to write the examination on them describing it as unfortunate.
The Vice Chairman regretted about the late submission of the exams materials to the various schools.
“On Monday l went round some schools and found out the materials were brought in around 12pm which could not help the schools to administer two subjects a day” Mr Asante said.
According to him, most schools in Kumasi Metropolis failed to get questions on BDT while others had problems with science .
Mr Asante called on the Directorate to ensure that examination materials reach the various schools early to help teachers mark the scripts on time.
It would be recalled that Mr Asante expressed concern about the conduct of the examination last Saturday but according to him, he never accused the Metropolitan Director of Education , Mrs Martha Owusu Agyemang of embezzling the amount allocated to her as 5he examination fees.
“I never made allegations that the Metropolitan Director had embezzled any amount but was worried about the Directorate’s inability to provide answer booklets to the pupils” Mr Asante said
