The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Titus Glover has said that the fight against illegal mining popularly known as “galamsey” is difficult because it is the members of the New Patriotic Party who are doing the illegal mining.
According to Titus Glover, there are laws against illegal mining and the president have put more effort to curb the menace, but the people who are supposed to ensure that the galamsey is stopped are doing it so every effort made to fight it looks backwards.
“There are laws against it but it is our own people who are involved in the galamsey making the fight difficult. It’s a fact that the NPP members involved in the galamsey is making the work difficult. I am not afraid to say it, it’s the NPP members” he said on Net2 TV.
According to Glover, government will deploy soldiers from Accra into the forest to fight the Galamsey but after chasing those illegal miners and return to Accra, the miners go back to continue the activity. He said it was the District Security Council and the Regional Security Council in those communities to enforce the law but they are involved in the menace.
“Soldiers are fighting in the forest, after chasing them, what do those district security council, regional state council what are they doing? We can’t be sending soldiers all the time from Accra. “
