In a high-stakes gathering that blended technical analysis with political celebration, the Ashanti Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially recognized the Oforikrom Constituency as the best-performing constituency within the Kumasi Metropolis for the 2024 electoral cycle.
The announcement was the highlight of a comprehensive performance review held yesterday at the forecourt of the Regional Party Office.
The event signaled the party’s early transition from the 2024 polls to an aggressive 2028 strategic roadmap, aimed at further dismantling the electoral dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in its traditional stronghold.
The engagement served as a formal “post-mortem” of the 2024 elections, where leadership scrutinized voting patterns, organizational efficiency, and grassroots mobilization.
Presided over by the National Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the ceremony focused on rewarding those who delivered measurable growth for the party.
The Oforikrom Constituency’s recognition as the “Best Performing” comes at a critical time. Despite the region being a historical fortress for the opposition, Oforikrom was lauded for its exceptional resilience and ability to mobilize the rank and file under intense pressure.
In a keynote address that resonated with the gathered party members, Chairman Asiedu Nketiah underscored the strategic weight of the Ashanti Region in national politics.
He noted that the “Ashanti Project”—the party’s long-term plan to increase its vote share in the region remains the cornerstone of the NDC’s national influence.
“The 2024 cycle has provided us with invaluable data.
These lessons are not just reflections of the past; they are the bedrock of our future operations,” Chairman Nketiah stated. “We are maintaining the momentum. The road to 2028 begins with the discipline and resilience we see here today.”
A significant portion of the event was dedicated to an awards presentation. The leadership presented citations and honors to:
Hardworking Zonal Leaders: Recognized for defending the party’s interests at the polling station level.
Constituency Executives: Commended for strategic voter mobilization.
Local Organizers: Honored for their “grueling work” in challenging terrains.
Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, emphasized that the party’s upward trajectory in the region was “not accidental.” He credited the success to the men and women who stood their ground during the recent polls.
The review brought together a diverse group of stakeholders to ensure a holistic view of the party’s health. Key participants included:
National and Regional Executives
Constituency Leaders
Zonal Coordinators
Internal Election Management Teams
Dr. Frank Amoakohene, along with other prominent regional executives, facilitated what was described as “frank and restorative” dialogues. These sessions focused on addressing structural gaps and deepening party unity to ensure the NDC remains a formidable force in the coming years.
As the ceremony concluded, the leadership reaffirmed a collective commitment to refining grassroots communication and election management systems. By analyzing organizational bottlenecks now, the party intends to keep its machinery “well-oiled” for the challenges of the next four years.
The event ended with a symbolic “reaffirmation of resolve,” where members pledged to work diligently toward an even more dominant performance in 2028. With the successful conclusion of this review, the NDC has signaled that it is not resting on its laurels but is instead doubling down on its efforts to win the hearts and minds of the Ashanti electorate.
