In a major boost to local sanitation and municipal efficiency, Hon. Answel Sadat, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom, has spearheaded the distribution of tricycles and waste containers to all four zonal councils within the municipality.
The initiative, aimed at enhancing waste collection and environmental cleanliness, underscores the administration’s commitment to sustainable urban development and community welfare.
The event, held at the municipal assembly grounds, saw the MCE personally handing over the equipment to representatives from the Oforikrom North, South, East, and West Zonal Councils. Each council received a set of modern tricycles designed to improve mobility for waste collection teams, along with strategically allocated waste containers to facilitate proper disposal of refuse in public spaces.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Hon. Sadat emphasized the importance of sanitation in promoting public health and civic responsibility. “A clean environment is not just about aesthetics; it is about the health and well-being of our people. By equipping our zonal councils with these tools, we are taking concrete steps towards a cleaner, healthier, and more organized Oforikrom Municipality,” he stated.
The MCE also called on residents to play an active role in maintaining cleanliness in their communities. “While the assembly is providing the resources, the success of this initiative depends on community cooperation. Every citizen has a role to play in ensuring that our streets, markets, and neighborhoods remain clean and safe,” he added.
Officials from the municipal assembly noted that the tricycles would significantly improve waste collection efficiency, particularly in areas that are difficult to access with larger vehicles. The addition of waste containers at key points within the municipality is expected to reduce littering and promote proper waste segregation practices.
The distribution aligns with the Oforikrom Assembly’s broader strategy to modernize municipal services, promote environmental sustainability, and enhance the quality of life for residents. In recent months, the assembly has also undertaken initiatives to improve drainage systems, repair roads, and provide community education on waste management.
Residents expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting that the initiative would ease the burden on sanitation workers while creating a cleaner, more organized urban environment. “We are very happy with this support from Hon. Answel Sadat and the assembly. It shows that our leaders are committed to solving everyday problems that affect our lives,” remarked a community representative.
With this distribution, Oforikrom Municipality sets a benchmark for practical and impactful local governance, demonstrating that targeted interventions in sanitation infrastructure can have far-reaching benefits for both public health and community development.
