Otumfuo Ahenenanahene, Nana Kwame Mensah Bonsu, has appealed to former President John Dramani Mahama to pick his running mate from the Ashanti region.
He noted that no member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from the Ashanti region has occupied the position of President or Vice President, and, therefore, called the need to pick an Asante as his running mate.
Addressing a press conference today in Kumasi, he said, it is not only about time an Asante occupies that higher position but will also enable the party to maximize votes in the region in the 2024 general elections.
He suggested that the flagbearer of the NDC picks the former Local Government Minister, Akwasi Oppong Fosu to enable the party to wrestle power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr Ofosu, he said, commands respect not only in the party but also in the Ashanti region and the nation as a whole, aside from his experience and his track record.
He, however, indicated that the decision is on the bosom of the former President to pick whoever he wants but from the Ashanti region to enable the party to maximize votes.
The Chief who was unhappy with the current state of the nation’s economy noted that Ghanaians are suffering under the current government.
Nana Bonsu said the current state of Ghana’s economy cannot be attributed to the Russia-Ukraine war but to bad governance.
He noted that Ghana is not within Russia or Ukraine to experience such a situation while questioning why neighboring countries are not also experiencing the same economic situation.
