“As we step into a brand new year, I extend my warmest wishes to each one of you for a prosperous and promising 2025. May the year bring growth, success, and renewed strength to our profession as we continue to serve as the fourth estate of the realm and as we continue to serve as worthy partners for development.
Let me take this opportunity to thank members of PRINPAG for exhibiting professional competence and high journalistic standards in our various reportage before, during and after the December 2024 general elections. Reflecting on the journey so far, it is essential to address the evolving relationship between media practitioners and *the state* which is crucial for holistic national development. As we consistently advised the media handlers of the outgoing government, we would like to urge the media handlers of the incoming administration to avoid discrimination against any media house for whatever reasons. Fairness and inclusivity must remain the bedrock of all interactions between state officials and the media.
PRINPAG strongly recommends the establishment of a unified media platform where government information can be shared transparently and equitably with all media houses. The platform will ensure equal access to information, fostering collaboration and trust within the media landscape and will also go a long way to deal with issues of speculations, spinning, and skewing to achieve parochial interests and negative agenda.
As an Association, PRINPAG also calls on both the incoming government and institutional media handlers to actively engage with the leadership of media associations in Ghana to forge a partnership for mutual gains and in the mutual interests of both the media and national development. This partnership is crucial in reversing Ghana’s declining position on the World Press Freedom Index and addressing the current challenges facing the media industry in the country. Together, we can turn the tide and restore the dignity and freedom that the Ghanaian media rightfully deserves.
On behalf of the National Executives of PRINPAG, I commend each of you for your resilience, dedication, and commitment to upholding journalistic standards despite the challenges. Let us continue to stand united and work collectively towards a better and more vibrant media environment in Ghana.
_Happy New Year to you all, and may 2025 be a year of breakthroughs and progress for PRINPAG and the entire Ghanaian media fraternity.”
Warm regards,
