School feeding caterers declare nationwide strike over unlawful deductions by gov’t

Progressive School Feeding Caterers Association ,Ghana has threatened to lay down their tools if authorities and the government of Ghana fail to address their concerns.

Headed by Gifty Asamoah, President of the Association, she made it clear in a press statement that , the coordinator for Ghana School Feeding, Hajia Safia has said on national television that government has approved ghc1. 50p for each pupil instead of the ghc3. 00 demanded by caterers , of which payment took effect in the first term of 2023/2024 academic year.

She said, the caterers realized from the recent payments that ghc1. 20p was rather used for the calculation instead of the ghc1. 50p as approved by the government.

They are by this statement demanding for the following concerns to be addressed by both the government and the Secretariat else they have no option that to go on strike.

She said,they are demanding for the 30p deducted by the Secretariat, delay in timely payment, under payment, under payment due to non cooking, non payment, demanding of tax certificate, caterers not receiving bank alert, non engagement, no response to concerns raised, Demanding second term payment by the end of next week Friday and the third term payments before the next academic year.

“If all concerns are not address caterers will lay down their tools.” She
