Sofoline Muslims in need of Gh¢1.8m to settle mosque land debt

Imam Mohammed Sheriff-fudeen, in charge of the Sofoline mosque is making a passionate appealed to the public especially those in the Muslims communities to come to their aid to save their mosque from a private developers demolition.

According to him, the piece of land was acquired on lease at the Sofoline to built the mosque by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the late first President of Ghana for the military, and the Muslims in and around the area joined them during the period of prayers up to date which has now become a property of the Muslims in the area.

He disclosed that, the lease has expired without their knowledge hence alleging that the custodians of the land realizing the expiration of the lease sold the land to a private developer without consulting them as to whether they could renew the lease or vacate from the piece of land.
According to the Imam, they were surprise to have a letter from the developer asking them to vacate the land with all their belongings to pave way for development to commence in the area.
He stated that consulting Nana Bantamahene and Kwadaso Odikro and his secretary who are the custodians of the land and had been informed that the land had been sold out to a private developer living in abroad for Gh¢1.8 000.000.00 (Gh¢1.8m) and asked those still praying in the mosque to pay back the money to the developer if they still want to maintain the place by keeping the mosque.
Imam Shariff-fudeen, stated that, the fact is that the occupants of the mosque today can not afford the huge amount of money to maintain the mosq and for that matter, pleading with philanthropists, individuals and cooperate bodies especially Muslims scholars to come to their aid to keep the place for all Muslims to worship.
