The South Dayi District Assembly has formally commissioned and handed over a GH₵1 million DPAT7-funded, four-bedroom hall-and-chamber self-contained teachers’ apartment to the Peki-Dzake E.P. Primary A/B and Kindergarten, marking a major milestone in improving the welfare of teachers in the district.

Though the project was completed last year, it had not been officially commissioned until now. The facility is expected to significantly ease the accommodation challenges faced by teachers posted to the school, thereby improving teaching and learning outcomes.
At a brief ceremony on the school compound, the Headteacher, Mawutor Atsutse, underscored the importance of the facility in enhancing motivation among educators.

He stressed that aside from convenience, the bungalow stands as a crucial tool in attracting and retaining quality teachers who will help shape the future of the pupils.

“This bungalow will not only provide our educators with comfortable and conducive environment, but also to attracting and retaining qualified professionals who will inspire our students to reach their full potentials,”
Mawutor stated.

The District Chief Executive for the North Dayi Constituency, Courage Kokoroko, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of teachers, noting that their contribution to national development cannot be overlooked.

“Most often than not, it is said the teacher’s reward is in heaven.
We the NDC refuse to be part of this poignant affection as it is our firm believe that, the teacher must be rewarded from the very continent that he/she toils on,”
Courage Kokoroko said.

He urged the beneficiaries to take full responsibility for maintaining the facility, dismissing the common notion that “it is for the government”, and encouraging them instead to treat it as their own asset.
The Chief of Peki-Dzake, Torgbe Dzeha III, expressed his gratitude to the Minister and the Assembly for what he described as a timely intervention.
He appealed for additional support, calling for improvements to the town’s road network and the lighting system around the school to ensure safety and accessibility.
Addressing the gathering, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, assured residents that South Dayi would continue to receive its rightful portion of national development projects. He lauded the community for actively participating in bringing the teachers’ apartment to fruition.
He further highlighted the President’s dedication to improving education nationwide and lamented the rising cost of rent in certain communities, noting that such challenges often drive workers away from the areas that need them most.
