A pressure group in the Kumasi City Market, known as the Alliance for Change, has raised concerns about the impending new board of directors for the market.
According to the group, the total change of the structure and personality of the new board could be the solution to the market’s current challenges.
The group believes that the past management and board’s direction and management have been the sole cause of the market’s current state of disarray.
The Alliance for Change is calling for new and fresh minds to fix the rot in the market. They argue that the past board members, who are equally culpable for the market’s current state, should not be considered for the new board.
According to the group’s spokesperson, Anastasia Bonsu, almost all the members of the dissolved board will not get the chance to be constituted into the new board, except for Amoamahene Nana Agyenim Boateng, who represented the Asantehene but couldn’t live up to expectation.
The group has admonished Amoamahene, Dr Nana Agyenim Boateng I to publicly enumerate his achievements, if any, to discredit the group’s position if he is considered for the new board.
The group believes that Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has a pool of intellectuals, learned, experienced, wise, and skillful chiefs and administrative staff capable of working to turn around the fortune of the market and traders.
The traders are of the firm opinion that the market needs creative leaders who can think outside the box to fulfill the potential benefits of commercializing the facility and mobilize revenue.
They argue that the current state of the market is a result of accumulated debt and mess, despite the numerous revenue streams available.
The group believes that the principle of transfer in labor practice, which promotes the dynamism and application of diverse minds, should be applied in the selection of the new board members.
The Alliance for Change is determined to see a change in the leadership of the Kejetia Market. They believe that a new face on the board, with fresh minds and creative leaders, is the solution to the market’s current challenges.
The group’s call is a wake-up call to the Asantehene and the relevant authorities to consider the needs and concerns of the traders in the market. The traders are hopeful that their plea will be heard and that a new board will be constituted to turn around the fortune of the market.
