The election of one of the oldest-serving MPs affirms what a great democracy we can build for ourselves as a nation and how dialogue and consensus building can make us even stronger as a nation.
The former Nadowli Kaleo MP won a chaotic, closely contested secret ballot in the Chamber of Parliament on Thursday against former Speaker, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye of which he needs to be commended by our great party (UFP)
UFP again wishes to congratulate the great National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their efforts to ensure that a speaker is elected from their party despite intimidation .
“You have done well by comporting yourselves to ensure that democracy won at the end of the chaotic and closely secret ballot elections at the chamber that we all witnessed.
Your actions have actually deepened our democracy.”
UFP however condemns the subsequent invasion of the military at the chamber of the house ,says it is barbaric and needs to be condemned.
The simple question UFP wants to ask is ,who instructed the military to go to the parliament house since we had no president and interior minister at that particular moment since every appointment was dissolved.
Who made the authorization and on what capacity? .We are yet to know and those responsible must be dealt with by the laws of the land.
It is the wish of the UFP that the supreme Court also works with the laws on this land to ensure fairness and justice in the election petition case filed by the flagbearer of the NDC,His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
