A devastating windstorm has ravaged 32 villages in the Akatsi South constituency, leaving many residents homeless and destroying their livelihoods.

The storm, which struck recently, caused extensive damage to homes, schools, and farmlands, worsening an already difficult situation for the affected communities .

Hon. Japhet Festus Gbede, the Assemblymember for the area, has appealed for urgent relief, describing the scale of destruction as “heartbreaking.” He highlighted the plight of struggling farmers whose homes and livelihoods were wiped out in an instant, making it even harder for them to recover.

The affected areas include Wuxor, Have, and Sremanu Electoral Area in the Akatsi South constituency, which is represented by Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament ¹. Hon. Gbede has called on President John Dramani Mahama, Hon. Ahiafor, and Volta Regional Minister Hon. James Gunu to provide immediate relief, including temporary shelter, food, and other essential supplies.

With hundreds of families left stranded, the situation is dire, and the government’s swift response is crucial. The Assemblymember’s appeal for urgent relief is a testament to the severity of the situation, and it’s essential that the government and relevant agencies act quickly to provide aid to the affected communities.
