A group by name Grassroots Delegates Platform has cautioned NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) to desist from forcing their choice on them as the party readies to elect its flag-bearer for election 2024.

Addressing a press conference eary Thursday, Frederick Owusu alias Ortega said some MPs have been threatening some polling as well as constituency executives of the removal of their names on the voter album if they do not endorse their preferred flag-bearer aspirant.

He noted that many of these MPs are aligned to the Vice President and have been publicly campaigning for him contrary to what the party rules say.

“Many of our members attest to threats by some MPs who insist we should support their choice or face the deletion of our names from the voter album and we want this to stop now”, the spokesperson stated.

Details:
Mr Owusu who was flanked by hundreds of supporters at the Bantama Market said it was surprising that the upcoming flag-bearer race was breeding division into the party.

He noted that each of the aspirants who have publicly declared intentions to lead the party were fit to do so.

It was unthinkable, the spokesperson stated, that one person should be forced down the throat of party members even when it appears he is not their choice.

“We the delegates of the party know whose turn it is and we know who can best win us power in 2024 and so we should be allowed to decide on that when the party confirms our election dates and timelines”, Mr Owusu firmly stated.

Resolve:
The group revealed they were collating the name of the MPs who were noted for threatening delegates and would publicly shame them if they refuse to stop that divisive kind of politics.

He noted that the group has monitored that the unusual happenings is only being done in the Ashanti Region where some of the MPs know their choice would have a poor showing in the upcoming elections.

Mr Owusu said the NPP party should not be seen as proponents of democracy and in reality act and practice otherwise.

“We should allow everyone to support who they love freely if we are practitioners of democracy rather than the ongoing sycophantic and backward type of politics some MPs and Ministers of State are displaying”, the spokesperson said.
