The 10th Cohort of the prestigious Kufuor Scholars Programme has successfully been held, marking yet another milestone in the programme’s commitment to nurturing ethical, visionary, and service-oriented leaders for Ghana and the African continent.
The leadership development initiative, founded by former President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor, continues to provide a platform for grooming young people with the skills, values, and mindset required to positively influence governance, public service, and national development.
Over the years, the programme has become a beacon of leadership excellence, attracting brilliant and purpose-driven young Ghanaians from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.
As part of activities for the 10th Cohort, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, was invited as a special guest to engage with the scholars. The session provided an interactive and intellectually stimulating forum, where participants had the opportunity to engage the Regional Minister on issues bordering on leadership, governance, public service, and national development.
Dr. Amoakohene responded thoughtfully to a wide range of insightful and challenging questions posed by the scholars, drawing from his personal experiences and journey in leadership and governance.
He shared practical lessons on decision-making, accountability, and public service, emphasizing the importance of character and values in leadership.
In his address, Dr. Amoakohene underscored a fundamental principle of leadership, stating that leadership is not defined by age or title, but by responsibility, service, consistency, and integrity.
He encouraged the scholars to view leadership as a daily commitment to solving problems and serving others, rather than a position to be attained in the future.
He further urged the participants to begin leading in their current capacities, irrespective of their age or professional status. According to him, young people possess immense potential to drive change and should have confidence in their ability to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“Leadership begins with the willingness to take responsibility and to serve with integrity,” he noted. “You are not too young to lead. Ghana and Africa need your leadership now, not later.”
Dr. Amoakohene also called on the scholars to embrace patriotism and selfless service, stressing that the future of the nation depends largely on the values and commitment of its young leaders. He encouraged them to remain consistent in their pursuit of excellence and to uphold integrity in all their endeavors.
The engagement left a lasting impression on the participants, reaffirming the relevance of the Kufuor Scholars Programme in shaping principled and proactive leaders.
The scholars expressed appreciation for the opportunity to interact with an accomplished public servant and to gain first-hand insights into leadership and governance.
The successful hosting of the 10th Cohort further cements the Kufuor Scholars Programme’s role as a critical platform for leadership development in Ghana. As the programme continues to grow, it remains dedicated to empowering young leaders to rise to the challenges of today and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of Ghana and Africa at large.
