The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to hold its constituency executive elections this weekend, with about 15,000 aspirants expected to contest for various positions across the country.

The elections form part of the party’s internal reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections and are expected to determine the leadership of its structures at the constituency level.

Addressing the media ahead of the polls, the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, said constituency electoral committees would oversee the process to ensure the elections were conducted in an orderly manner.

He assured party members of a credible electoral process and urged all aspirants and their supporters to respect the rules governing the elections.

The NDC’s General Secretary also disclosed that there would be no contest in Juaboso in the Western North Region and Banda in the Bono East Region, where incumbent executives are going unopposed.

The party leadership has called on members to approach the elections with discipline and a commitment to strengthening the party’s internal democratic processes.

On security, Mr Kwetey said the Ghana Police Service would be responsible for maintaining law and order throughout the exercise.

He cautioned party members against actions that could trigger violence or disrupt the elections, urging them to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the polls.

The constituency elections are a key stage in the NDC’s internal electoral calendar, as the party seeks to consolidate its grassroots structures and position itself for the 2028 general elections.

The outcome is expected to shape leadership at the constituency level and influence the party’s mobilisation and organisational activities in the run-up to the next national polls.
