The Second Vice Chairman for Suame Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Richard Asante, has described it as shocking for almost all the Members of Parliament (MPs) in Ashanti Region to support the presidential bid of Dr Mahamudu Bawumiah.
According to him, out of the 43 MPs in Ashanti Region, only the Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Madam Patricia Dapaa, supports Hon Alan Kyeremateng.
Speaking to a section of delegates in Kumasi, Mr Asante, disclosed that out of the 137 NPP MPs, 122 support the bid of Dr Bawumiah to lead the party for the 2024 general election.
According to him, majority of delegates will obviously align themselves to their MPs’ decision since they are their representatives in Parliament.
He disclosed that all the presidential aspirants of the party qualify to lead the party due to their individual contributions towards the nation’s building.
According to him, delegates had never taken wrong decision, therefore there is the need to select a candidate who can win power for the party in 2024.
Mr Asante therefore asked the delegates to desist from tribal and ethnic form of campaign since it has the tendency to break the front of the party.
