The Second Vice Chairman for Suame Constituency of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Richard Asante, has called on the national executives of the party to bar other government appointees including Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) from contesting in the parliamentary primaries.
Such appointees, he said, will rather put ‘unquencheable’ pressure on all sitting Members of Parliament during the electioneering campaign period which will force the MPs to quit Parliament for campaign.
Speaking to the media in Kumasi, Mr Asante, who is a former Research Assistant in Parliament, said banning only MMDCEs and party executives is unfair and discriminatory.
According to him, most CEOs unseated sitting MPs in the last primaries and the unsuccessful ones paved way for the opposition NDC to take over such seats.
He disclosed that to ensure sitting MPs concentrate on their parliamentary tasks without any unnecessary distractions, the party ought to ban all other appointees.
The Vice Chairman commended the national executives for taking such decision which aims at protecting sitting MPs to retain their seats.
