The Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly has presented a report on the remarkable achievements of the New Patriotic Party in all the Sectors in the District since the inception of the District in March 2018.
Speaking at a colourful ceremony at Barekese yesterday to address the media on the district’s achievement since it’s inception,Madam Rebecca Yeboah,District Chief Executive of the area said, in the dispensation of Ghana’s democracy, good governance is one of the tools to assess any democratic leader and the President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo since assuming the highest office as the President of the Republic of Ghana.
She however welcomed the public to the forum to highlight the efforts being made by the NPP Government in the District towards improving the quality of lives of the people in the areas of security, education, agriculture, health, roads, water and sanitation, electrification and employment creation among others.
SECURITY
The District has been calm and peaceful.
She said,even though there were few cases of security issues, the Security Agencies, in collaboration with the District Security Council (DISEC) were able to effectively contain the situation.
According to her,the Electoral Areas and Area Councils, as basic Units from where most of security issues emanate, recognized the importance of peace and security in the smooth performance of their duties. Many of them therefore formed Neighbourhood Watch Committees to support the security agencies in the fight against crime in the communities. As part of measures to complement Government efforts in the management of Security in the District, the Assembly has also committed funds to the construction of a Modern Court Complex at Akropong which will be commissioned soon, and the provision of fuel to assist Security Agencies in patrols to fight crime in the District.
AGRICULTURE
The District successfully implemented the various Flagship Programmes on agricultural in fulfillment of its Manifesto pledge to achieve food security for both local consumption and for export.
These include:
MAG and Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) Programme
Under this programme, a total of 224 hectares were cultivated in the district. The crops cultivated under the initiative included, 154 hectares of seed maize and 70 hectares of seed rice.
A total 5,304 certified seeds were received from Government and 5,297 have been distributed to a total of 909 farmers.
Fertilizer Subsidy
Under the Fertilizer Subsidy Programme, a total of 4,319 bags of two types of fertilizers (NPK and Urea) were received and sold to farmers at subsidized prices by the government. This helped the farmers to increase their output. Below is the breakdown of the fertilizer received and distributed.
Rearing For Food and Jobs (RFJ)
Under this Project, a total of twenty (20) pig farmers were selected for the program to receive breeds from MOFA-APD for rearing.
Planting For Export and Rural Development (PERD)
A total of Eighty-Eight Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifty-Seven (88,987) seedlings have been distributed to farmers freely out of the 350,000 seedlings under the Alternative Livelihood Development Project. The beneficiaries comprised of Two Hundred Seventy-Five (275) males and Sixty-Two (62) females in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District and neigbouring Districts such as Ahafo Ano Districts and Offinso Municipal among others.
Fall Army Worm (FAW) Infestation
Few portions of farms were destroyed by FAW. The fight against the pest was successful as major maize farms were recovered as a result of the appropriate chemical application measures and the rains that set in.
HEALTH DELIVERY
The following is the highlights of healthcare delivery in the District:
Renting of office accommodation for the District Health Directorate.
Construction of a shed for the Asuofua Health Centre
Plans are far advanced by our Hon. MP to Construct a Health Centre and a CHP Compound at Ntensere and Mfensi respectively.
Maternal Deaths
The District recorded zero maternal death out of the total of four hundred and eighty (480) deliveries were recorded during the period under review. However, one (1) still birth was recorded within the period.
EDUCATION
Since the inception of the District in March 2018, the Assembly has embarked on a number of educational projects namely:
The completion of 1No. 3-Unit Classroom block with dual desks at Barekese D/A School ‘A’,
Construction of 1No. 6-Unit Classroom block with other facilities at Barekese D/A School ‘B’,
Construction of 1No. 3-Unit Classroom block with office & store at Fufuo,
Renovation of 1No. 4-Unit Classroom block with office & store at Abira.
Construction of 1No. 6-unit classroom block with other facilities at Asuofua Cluster of School – ongoing.
Construction of 1No. 6-unit classroom block with other facilities at Tabere Methodist School – ongoing.
Construction of Student Dormitory at Barekese SHS
Construction of Student Library at Barekese SHS
Construction of 12-Unit Classroom Block at Barekese SHS
Construction of Student Dormitory at Osei Tutu SHS
Construction of Student Library at Osei Tutu SHS
Construction of 12-Unit Classroom Block at Osei Tutu SHS
Distribution of items ranging from biscuit, soft drinks and school uniform to newly admitted pupils on the occasion of ‘My First Day at School’ for the 2018/ 2019 academic year.
A substantive District Director of Education has also been posted to the District.
A total of forty-six (46) persons have benefited from the Scholarship Scheme in the District.
Free Senior High School Policy.
The two Senior High Schools (Barekese and Osei Tutu Senior Schools) in the District are benefitting from the policy. Government has also absorbed the Spiritan Academy Senior High School, a private school into the mainstream of the public education.
ROADS
NANA CHAIRMAN:
Construction of road is capital intensive and as such, not much has been achieved except the following:
Repair & maintenance of Kapro–Dabaa bridge,
Blading of Asuofua–Achiase-Amoaman town road,
Reshaping of Atamso Junction Bogoro Feeder Road
Redressing of the Owabi-Esaase Road
WATER AND SANITATION
The District also embarked on the following projects.
Dislodging of five number twenty-seater toilets at Osei Tutu SHS,
Evacuation of refuse at Barekese
Desilting of drains at Asuofua
Placement of refuse containers at vantage points in the District
Construction of a pound in Barekese to arrest stray animals
Food Vendors screening to ensure food safety
Completion of toilet facility at Dabaa
Construction of urinal for Mfensi Basic School
Construction of mechanized borehole at Dabaa
Encroachment of farmers and illegal farming and logging in catchment areas of the Barekese and Owabi dams is an issue of concern in the District. Measures are being put in place to curb the situation.
As a matter of fact, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources will visit the District on Friday, 1st November, 2019 to assess the situation and possibly declare the areas as ‘Security Zone’.
ELECTRIFICATION
The District benefited from about 500 complete set of street lights to the rural communities to improve visibility in the District. Electricity poles have also been secured to extend electricity to communities.
SOCIAL INTERVENTIONS
Nation Builders Corps (NABCO)
The Nation Builders Corps Programme (NABCO) engaged a total of 350 youth in all the seven modules in the District. This is made up of 164 Educate Ghana, 16 Feed Ghana, 14 Digitize Ghana, 55 Heal Ghana, 59 Revenue Ghana, 24 Civic Ghana and 18 Enterprise Ghana.
Disbursement of the DACF for Persons with Disability (PWDs)
A total of eighty (80) PWDs benefitted from the programme as follows:
Economic empowerment (income generating activities -74 persons
Assistive devices (Wheel Chair) – 5 persons
Educational support -1 person
LOCAL GOVERNMENT.
The Assembly during the period also undertook many programmes and Projects using either their own internally generated revenue or other funds that are given to the Assemblies directly.

Renovation of Cocoa Shed into offices at Barekese,
Conversion of balcony into an office for the Presiding Member
Construction of a Social Center at Adankwame.
