Unified Group wants KT Hammond Interrogated by Police

A group of political activists aimed at championing violence free, fair and transparent elections dubbed “United Group” has called on the Ghana Police Service to immediately interrogate Mr. KT Hammond, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asokwa over Election threat of his contender and his supporters during the Saturday 27th, January 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries .

The Group expressed its outrage and deep concern over the failure of the Ghana Police Service to investigate and interrogate the Member of Parliament who was vying for his five terms in Parliamentary primaries regarding his threats since Saturday the 27th, January 2024 up to date.

According to a press statement signed by Nana Kwakye Anarfi and Mr Kofi Amoateng Asante, the National and deputy Commutation Directors of the group explained that, during the primaries, the clear view of the police officers, the MP issued violent threats,
stating he would “beat his opponent and crush his members, even claiming his men were fully armed to do the bid.
According to them, the blatant disregard for the law and intimidation tactics are totally unacceptable.
Mr. Hammond, a seasoned legislator and expected role model, has chosen to flagrantly trample upon the very foundation of our democracy, the rule of law and justice.
They argued whether the Executive arms of the government led by the President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo and Dr Mahammud Bawumia are the direct to beneficiaries of what KT. Hammond intended doing, the reason they think he is still in his ministerial position, because because they are not true democratic and do not believe in absolute democracy.
According the group the MP and Minister of Trade and Industry actions send a message of impunity and
violence, potentially disrupting the upcoming general elections and instilling fear in ordinary Ghanaians.
The Unified Group strongly condemns Mr Hammond’s behaviour and demands
immediate action from the Ghana Police Service, launch a thorough investigation into the incumbent MP threats. Interrogate him without delay to understand his intentions and motivations.
The group wants the MP hold accountable for his actions to the full extent of the law to Send a clear message that no one, regardless of your position or influence, is above the law, as the safety and security of all Ghanaians must be paramount, and for that matter, cannot stand by and allow
individuals to threaten and intimidate others with impunity.
The group is urging the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly and decisively to uphold the law and protect our democracy.
The United Group is entreating all Ghanaians to remain vigilant and speak out against any attempts to undermine the rule of law and democratic principles and work together by ensuring a peaceful, free and fair electoral process at all times.
